NAUGATUCK — The Naugatuck Police Department is warning residents to secure their homes following a series of burglaries on the borough’s west side.

The department says several houses were broken into in December on Summit Road and Beebe, New, Scott, Hoadley, Spencer, Cliff, Melbourne and Cherry streets.

“We’re working on the cases diligently and trying to see if and how they are connected,” said Lt. Gregory Dean, head of the detective bureau. “We’re trying to raise awareness and ask for the public’s help in giving any information that residents may have that can bring these cases to closure.”

The burglaries are happening between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., usually on week days. The intruders have been taking specific and big ticket items such as jewelry, computers and other electronics, such as gaming systems.

Some of the homes have been broken into and some of them were unlocked, police said. Police would not release a specific number of houses that have been broken into but said it was a significant amount.

Police posted on their Facebook page Dec. 31 that they are seeking the public’s help in tracking down a suspect. They are looking for anyone who may have information about the incidents or have seen anything that may be suspicious within the past month to call them.

“People should keep an eye on their neighbor’s houses and not hesitate to call if they see anything out of the ordinary,” Dean said.

The department’s main number is (203) 729-5221, and the confidential tip line is (203) 720-1010.

The department also reminds people to secure their homes by locking all doors and windows and to use security cameras if they have them.
