PROSPECT — Police charged a 59-year-old Waterbury woman last week with stealing thousands of dollars worth of jewelry from Prospect Jewelers.

Police responded to the store on Waterbury Road Jan. 15 for a complaint that several pieces of jewelry, worth an estimated $15,000, had been taken. Police said surveillance footage showed a woman, identified as Carla Francis, of 4 Poplar St., 2nd Floor, Waterbury, taking the jewelry.

State troopers contacted Francis and charged her with second-degree larceny. She appeared in Waterbury Superior Court Jan. 19 and was released on a promise to appear, according to online judicial records. She is scheduled to appear in court again Feb. 25.
