Letter: Beer Truck owner responds to letter

To the editor,

We at the Naugatuck Beer Truck greatly appreciate feedback, whether it’s in support of our ideals and concepts or not. As expressed in our interview with Luke Marshall of the Citizen’s News, we hold safety and accountability in the highest regard. Every order that is delivered requires the customer to sign a release form agreeing to consume alcohol responsibly, and that their photo identification is compliant with state and federal regulations; at which point the consumer is now the responsible party. In addition, if the Beer Truck driver does not feel comfortable completing delivery due to inability to verify legal drinking age or the state of the consumer, they have the right to deny delivery.

Do you blame a pizza restaurant for poor health and potential obesity? Alcoholism is a disease. It’s an addiction that sadly effects many. But, many of those suffering from the disease do not have shame in entering a liquor store to purchase alcohol on their own. We hope those effected by the disease find the power within themselves to seek the necessary assistance and support needed to fight it. We cannot ignore, however, that the consumer is responsible for their own choices. At the end of the day, we all must have a basic trust in human understanding and responsibility when it comes to consuming anything, not only alcohol.

Once again, we could not be more appreciative of your feedback and concerns. We look forward to continuing to handle them responsibly and work diligently in our pursuit of a safer Naugatuck community.
