BEACON FALLS — After more than two decades of public service, Jack Levine is planning to step aside this month.
Levine, 71, currently serves as the chairman of the Board of Finance. He submitted his resignation last week.
Levine said he will remain on the board until Nov. 10, when his term as chairman ends. His term on the Board of Finance ends in 2017.
Levine said he chose to resign now because he will be retiring as business manager for Amity Regional School District 5 in June. He has also accepted an adjunct teaching position with Southern Connecticut State University. The position will require him to teach on Tuesday nights, he said, the same night as the Board of Finance meetings.
In addition, Levine said he wants to spend more time with his family.
Levine has served in various roles in the town for 25 years. In addition to serving for 10 years on the Board of Finance, where he served as chairman, vice chairman and secretary, Levine has served on the Region 16 Board of Education for four years, as a selectman for two years, and as the town treasurer for eight years.
“It has been an honor and a privilege to serve the town,” Levine said.
Levine said he’s worked with everyone to make Beacon Falls a better place. He pointed out that he had been appointed to the Board of Finance by former first selectmen Sue Cable, a Democrat, and Gerald Smith, who was unaffiliated but ran on the Republican ticket.
“My primary purpose has always been to do the best for the town and not be concerned about whether the idea came from Democrat or Republican,” Levine said.
First Selectman Christopher Bielik said Levine has worked collaboratively and effectively with the Board of Selectman during his tenure on the finance board.
“He’s been a wealth of knowledge,” Bielik said. “The expertise he brings has been instrumental in crafting the two budgets we passed in my administration for the past two years.”
