NAUGATUCK — The Naugatuck Historical Society is asking for the public’s assistance in moving materials from its former headquarters on Water Street to a temporary headquarters on Church Street.

“Anyone who wants to show up with a hand truck and some muscle can meet between 8 and 9 a.m. Sunday morning,” said Wendy Murphy, immediate past president of the society.

She said people can meet at the train station, where the historical society is moving from, at 195 Water St. From there, volunteers will be asked to move items onto a moving truck that is being donated by Marie’s Movers of Southbury.

On Sunday, the society is moving office filing cabinets, desks, computers and most of the reference materials, Murphy said.

“Once we move to the storefront, at the very least we want to be able to be a reference for the community do be able to do research,” she said.

Anyone who shows up Sunday will receive free coffee and doughnuts. Naugatuck High School students can use the time to put toward community service hours, which are now necessary to graduate.
