BEACON FALLS — Rides, games, food and firefighters will all come together next week when Beacon Hose Company No. 1 hosts its annual Firemen’s Carnival.

The carnival opens June 11 at the firehouse at 35 North Main St. The carnival is open from 6 to 10 p.m. June 11, 6 to 11 p.m. June 12, and 3 p.m. to 12 a.m. on June 13.

“It is the single largest fundraiser that Beacon Hose Company does throughout the year. The town’s citizens look forward to it because it the signals the start of summer,” Beacon Hose Fire Chief James Trzaski said.

The carnival kicks off June 11 with a trivia night. It’s a new event for the carnival and will be hosted by Beacon Hose’s Jeff Kean, Trzaski said.

Live music will take center stage on June 12 and June 13. Sudden Impact, a classic rock cover band, will play on June 12. The Virginia-based alternative rock band Swell Daze will play on June 13.

The carnival’s annual parade will step off at 6 p.m. on June 13. As it does every year, the parade will feature fire departments from all around the area. Trophies will be given out after the parade in a variety of categories, including Best Appearing Apparatus, Best Appearing Ambulance, Most Men in Line, and Company Traveling the Longest Distance.

There will also be a raffle on June 13. Trzaski said tickets cost $2 and are available at the firehouse or from any member of the fire department. The drawing will take place at 9:30 p.m. The top prize in the raffle is a $400 gift certificate to The Home Depot.

The carnival will offer a wide range of foods, including steak sandwiches, sausage and peppers and fresh Maine lobster. Trzaski said there will also be beer and non-alcoholic beverages available.

“We’re offering great food for all three days,” Trzaski said.

Trzaski said people who want to attend the carnival can pre-order their meal tickets and ride tickets online at www.beaconhose.com under the carnival tab.

Trzaski said the carnival means a lot of work for all the members of Beacon Hose, but everyone enjoys working at the carnival because it brings people together.

“The town really looks forward to one of the biggest events in the community,” Trzaski said.
