PROSPECT — The public hearing on a proposed new CVS Pharmacy has come to a close.
The Planning and Zoning Commission officially closed the hearing on June 17.
The pharmacy is planned to be built at 26 Waterbury Road. It’s being proposed for a 3-acre parcel that includes the former Buckmiller Bros. Funeral Home property and two office buildings on Summit Road. The pharmacy will have a drive-thru and 64 parking spaces.
Plans include the demolition of a building on Summit Road that was heavily damaged by fire and the partial demolition and renovation of an existing building into a 2,440-square-foot office space with 10 parking spots.
The project is being proposed by Lombard Group of Waterbury, whose principal, John Lombard grew up in town. Lombard Group plans to move its headquarters from Waterbury into the newly renovated building in Prospect.
Residents first heard about plans for the 13,225-square-foot pharmacy in April. The commission kept the public hearing open due to concerns about traffic, driveway placement, and the look of the building.
On June 17, the Lombard Group presented the final draft for the pharmacy with changes based on the commission’s recommendations. The changes included adding a by-pass lane heading south on Waterbury Road in order to keep traffic flowing smoothly, moving one of the driveways from Waterbury Road to Chandler Drive, and redesigning the exterior of the building. The other driveway is planned to be on Summit Road.
The commission had 65 days from June 17 to decide whether to approve the plans for the CVS. The commission is expected to begin discussions about the proposal during its next meeting on July 1.
