BEACON FALLS — The Assessor’s Office is accepting applications for the elderly or totally disabled renters program.
To be eligible an applicant must have turned 65 years old by Dec. 31, 2014 or be totally disabled according to Social Security guidelines. Proof of disability must be provided if a disability application is not already on file.
Income for the 2014 calendar year must not have exceeded $42,200 for a married couple or $34,600 for a single person. Proof of income must be provided.
Verification of expenses must also be provided and would include rent, electric, water and heating fuel for the 2014 calendar year. Telephone and cable TV are not considered qualifying utilities. A refund will be made by the state if 35 percent of rent and utilities exceed 5 percent of income.
