BEACON FALLS — Harold Edward King, 98, the husband of the late Matilda (Armonat) King for 59 years, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 16, 2015 at Wedgewood Assisted Living Facility in Bartow, Fla. Mr. King had previously lived in Beacon Falls for 68 years.

Mr. King was born Feb. 18, 1917. in Jamaica Plain, Mass., a son of the late Philip and Martha King, who had lived in Bauline, Newfoundland, Canada. Mr. King retired from the footwear division of Uniroyal, Inc., where he had worked for 29 years. He enjoyed attending Pinebrook Assembly of God Church in Union City and the Beacon Falls Congregational Church, as well as the Waterbury Full Gospel Businessmen. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, who served as a communications chief with the 17th field artillery, second battalion from 1941-1945. He saw action in North Africa, Italy, France and Germany. He was awarded the Bronze Star and the Good Conduct Medal among others.

Mr. King is survived by his son, Philip King and his wife, Sherron, of Lakeland, Fla.; his daughter, Glenda Young and her husband, Jeffrey, of Gales Ferry; his grandchildren, Cyndi Cook and her husband, Bill, and Kelly King of Florida, and Jonathan Young of Massachusetts; four great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews in Connecticut, Newfoundland and British Columbia.

Mr. King was predeceased by his wife, Matilda Armonat King, who had lived in Beacon Falls; his brother, Richard King, who had lived in Naugatuck; his brother, Donald King; his sisters, Margaret Patey and Bertha LeGrow, who had all lived in Newfoundland, Canada.

Mr. King’s family would like to thank his caregivers, Brady Kaess and Tina Clark, for their compassionate and loving care.

A celebration of Mr. King’s life will be held Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Beacon Falls Congregational Church, 69 Wolfe Ave., Beacon Falls, CT 06403. Interment will be private and there are no calling hours. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., Naugatuck.
