Elaine Carol (Duphiney) Russell, 77, passed away peacefully April 9, 2015 with her family by her side.

Elaine was born on Dec. 15, 1937 in Waterbury, to the late Edmond Duphiney and Edith (Cable) Duphiney. She was predeceased by her brother, Randall; sister, Claire, and infant son, Randy.

Elaine grew up in Middlebury and was a graduate of Crosby High School. She completed St. Mary’s Hospital/Kaynor Tech’s first LPN class in 1965, and practiced with the VNA, Post College and Glendale Health Center. Later, she spent many years running her own business, Russell Clerical Services.

Elaine was a member of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians, Naugatuck Historical Society, Naugatuck Women’s Study Club, Naugatuck Women’s Club, and was a commissioner on the Naugatuck Housing Authority where she helped seniors embrace the TRIAD program. She was an avid sports fan, supporting the Yankees, UConn basketball and NASCAR, and found peace and solace at Hop Brook Lake. Elaine was proudly the reigning champion of the 2015 Russell Family & Friends NCAA basketball pool, which she ran for over 10 years.

Elaine leaves four children, David Russell and wife, Kathleen, of Wilmington, Del., and children Christopher and wife, Jamie, expecting Elaine’s first great-granddaughter in April; Andrew and wife, Liz, and Keeley; Terri Fidanza of Milford and sons, Nicholas and wife, Nicole, and Benjamin; Sandy Russell Kane and husband, Matthew, of Prospect and son, Matthew; and Paul Russell and wife, Michele, of Naugatuck and children, Jeffrey and Hailey. Elaine also leaves Dusty, her faithful and furry companion of 13 years.

A Memorial Mass will be held in her honor on Monday, April 13, 2015 at 9 a.m. at St. Hedwig Church, Naugatuck. Friends are asked to meet directly at church. A private burial celebration will be held at the convenience of the family. At Elaine’s request, there will be no calling hours or formal services. The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Naugatuck is assisting with arrangements.
