NAUGATUCK — The Board of Directors of Literacy Volunteers of Greater Waterbury will honor Bob Sagendorf Jr. for his commitment to literacy in the community.

Sagendorf, a Naugatuck resident, will be honored with the Gregory & Sabina Lines Service Award at the board’s annual Wine Dinner and Auction fundraiser April 17 at 6 p.m. at the Aqua Turf in Plantsville.

“I’m extremely honored,” Sagendorf said. “It was a surprise to me and very heartwarming and touching for me to get the Lines Award.”

Sagendorf has been part of the Literacy Volunteers for 10 years and helped create the annual wine dinner with fellow literacy volunteer and ESPN Sportscaster Chris Berman.

“We have raised tens of thousands of dollars for Literacy Volunteers with this wine dinner. I’m so very proud of it. We’ve made this dinner an annual event that people love to come to,” Sagendorf said.

Literacy Volunteers Executive Director Tina Agati said Sagendorf was chosen for this award because of his dedication to the group.

In addition to helping establish the wine dinner, Sagendorf has served as a board member for six years and as the master of ceremonies of the organization’s annual Scrabble Challenge for several years, Agati said.

“LVGW has a small staff so we rely on our board members to serve as ambassadors in the community. Bob has been an enthusiastic supporter of the work of Literacy Volunteers, and this award is the perfect way to publicly thank him for his efforts,” Agati said.

Berman will serve as the master of ceremonies for the dinner. The evening will also feature a musical performance by the Boogie Boys, and both a live and silent auction.

Registration is $75 per person. Proceeds will benefit the educational programs of Literacy Volunteers of Greater Waterbury. For more information, call (203) 754-1164.
