NAUGATUCK — The borough’s annual fishing derby has been delayed due to the weather.

The 24th Annual James Hennessey, Sr. Fishing Derby will take place at 8 a.m. May 2 at Baummer’s Pond.

Public Works employee and Fishing Derby Chairman Dan Hennessey said the derby, which was originally scheduled for this Saturday, was moved due to the weather.

“The pond is half covered with ice still. So if I had it next weekend I’d probably still have ice,” said Hennessey last week.

Hennessey also did not want to compete with the opening day of the fishing season, which was pushed back a week to April 11 this year. He said the borough will still be able to stock the pond with fish for the derby despite the change in the date.
