NAUGATUCK — The Assessor’s Office will begin accepting applications for the elderly renter’s program April 2.
Applications will be accepted on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the office in Town Hall, 229 Church St., until Oct. 1.
In order to be eligible to apply for a refund, a person or their spouse must have been 65 years old or older by the end of 2014. Anyone receiving Social Security disability benefits are also entitled to receive benefits, providing the applicant meets the requirements of this program.
Also to qualify, a person must rent where he or she lives or share rent payment. Applicants must have been a resident of the state for at least one year before filing a claim. Income can’t exceed $34,600 for a single person or $42,200 for a married couple to qualify for the program. Applicants must present proof of income for the year 2014.
