NAUGATUCK — The assessor’s office is accepting applications for the Elderly Homeowners Program.

The filing period runs through May 15. Applications will only be accepted on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the assessor’s office in Town Hall.

To qualify for the program, the applicant or spouse must be 65 years old. Income, including social security, must not have exceeded $34,600 for a single person or $42,200 for married couple in 2014.

Permanently and totally disabled individuals are eligible to receive benefits under the program regardless of age, provided all other criteria are met. Anyone who applies due to a disability should bring their original Notice of Award Letter from the Social Security Administration and their SSA1099 form from the social security department as proof. Applications will not be accepted without this proof.

Proof of 2014 income must be presented with an application. Examples of income include federal income tax return and social security year end statement for 2014, W2 forms, pension year end statement and interest income.
