NAUGATUCK — A Naugatuck woman is looking to share some smiles along her road to recovery.

On Dec. 17, Allene Bosco-Hall, 47, collapsed with a seizure and was rushed to Milford Hospital where it was discovered she had a brain tumor.

According to her daughter, Taylor Hubbell, Bosco-Hall spent the next week in the hospital. She was able to come home for Christmas, but then had to go back to the hospital to continue treatment.

On Dec. 29, Bosco-Hall had surgery at Yale-New Haven Hospital to remove as much of the tumor as possible and returned home for good two days later.

Now Hubbell and Bosco-Hall’s friend, Jill Swanson, are hosting a dinner to help Bosco-Hall.

“She didn’t want this to be called a benefit. She wanted it to be called a celebration of smiles,” Hubbell said.

The Celebration of Smiles Benefit Dinner is Sunday at 2 p.m. at Cooks Café, 203 Church St. The cost is a $20 donation at the door. The proceeds will benefit Bosco-Hall, who is currently unable to return to work due to the tumor.

Bosco-Hall is a Naugatuck native who graduated from Naugatuck High School in 1986. She remained in the borough to raise a family, which includes two daughters, Hubbell, 22, and Victoria Hubbell, 15. She also has a grandson, Logan Liguori, 2, who is Hubbell’s son.

Hubbell said, before her diagnosis, Bosco-Hall enjoyed taking her grandson to the park and spending time outdoors and with her friends.

Bosco-Hall was also passionate about her job as a dental hygienist, which she worked at for 26 years. In fact, working as a dental hygienist may have even helped save her life.

Bosco-Hall was treating a patient, who was an emergency medical technician, when she had her seizure. Her patient treated her on the scene before Bosco-Hall was rushed to the hospital.

When she arrived at the hospital, the doctor who treated her was also one of her patients.

“I took care of him when he came into the office and then he took care of me,” Bosco-Hall said.

Bosco-Hall wanted the benefit to be called a Celebration of Smiles because she has spent her working life taking care of people’s smiles. Seeing their smiles, she said, makes her smile.

Bosco-Hall has not been able to work since her seizure. Although it is financially difficult, she has enjoyed spending time with her family.

“I’ve always worked since I became a hygienist. My kids were in daycare when they were young,” Bosco-Hall said. “It’s nice to be home. I’m happy and grateful, even though there isn’t much money.”

Bosco-Hall hopes to be back to work as a dental hygienist by March.

People who are unable to attend the celebration, but still wish to donate can send a donation made out to Allene Bosco-Hall to 15 Southview St., 1st floor, Naugatuck, CT 06770.

Bosco-Hall is thankful for everyone who has helped her out so far.

“I believe as long as you are a good person and good to other people it comes back to you,” Bosco-Hall said.
