SEYMOUR — Mr. Howard F. Brown, Sr., 55, of Seymour, passed away with his family by his side at the VITAS Hospice unit at St. Mary’s Hospital after fighting a long courageous battle with lung cancer.

Howard was born in Derby, April 13, 1959, a son of Mrs. Margaret (Petersen) (Brown) Miller and the late Howard T. Brown and was a lifelong resident of Seymour. He was a graduate of Seymour High School. He was employed by Southern Connecticut State University in the grounds department. Howard also owned and operated his business, Howie’s Meat and Seafood. He maintained a relationship and adored each and every one of his customers. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Besides his mother and his step-father, Paul Miller, of Naugatuck, he leaves his children, Howard F. Brown, Jr. and Nicole Brown, both of Seymour; one brother, Frederick Brown and his wife, Neusa, of Prospect; four sisters, Judy Brown and Margaret Brown, (formerly Ardito) of Naugatuck, Susan Brown of Thomaston, and Joan Reilly and her husband, Mark, of Beacon Falls. Mark was a very dear friend of Howard’s. He also leaves several nieces and nephews and neighbor and dear friend, Ken Fiero.

The family would like to thank Howards Oncologist, Dr. David Witt and his staff of Trumbull. Also many thanks to the staff of the VITAS unit at St Mary’s (especially his favorites) for the wonderful and compassionate care that they provide to Howard during his illness.

His funeral service will be held on Monday, Jan. 5 at 9:30 a.m. at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St. Burial will be in Grove Cemetery, Cross Street, Naugatuck. Calling hours will be Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.
