Obituary: Anna (Wallick) Matcheson

NAUGATUCK — Anna (Wallick) Matcheson, 98, widow of John Matcheson, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Jan. 15, 2015 at Beacon Brook Health Center surrounded by her family.

Mrs. Matcheson was born in Scranton, Pa. on Jan. 31, 1916, daughter of the late Michael and Julia (Homa) Wallick. She was a longtime Naugatuck resident, and she was a member of St. Mary’s Orthodox Church in Waterbury. Anna enjoyed crocheting, baking and bowling.

She is survived by her sons, Jon (Mercedes) of Hampton and Thomas (Marcia) Matcheson of Naugatuck; her five grandchildren, Johnna (Jason) Sauro, Nickolaus (Amanda) Matcheson, Adam (A-Wen) Matcheson, Nathan Matcheson and Laura (Derek) Bostic; four great-grandchildren, Alexander, Raven, Ryan and Olivia; her sister, Genevieve Tierney of Moscow, Pa. and several nieces and nephews. Anna was predeceased by her eight brothers and one sister.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Beacon Brook for their attentive and compassionate care given to Anna during her illness.

Her funeral will be held on Monday, Jan. 19, 2015 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Orthodox Church, 3125 North Main St., Waterbury. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Orthodox Cemetery, Stillson Road, Waterbury. Calling hours will be held on Monday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. The Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald-Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main St., Naugatuck is assisting the family with arrangements.
