BEACON FALLS — The town’s electric vehicle charging station is set up and almost ready to go. It’s just waiting on one thing — electricity.

The charged station has been installed at the commuter parking lot on North Main Street. The town received a grant for approximately $8,400 to purchase and install the charging station. It was installed in December with the expectation that it would be operational by the end of 2014.

However, the charging station still remains without power.

First Selectman Christopher Bielik said he has been working with Newington Electric Company, which installed the charging station, to ensure Connecticut Light & Power hooks the station up in a reasonable time.

“The last I heard was within the last week. They still do not have a date from CL&P as to when the meter will be attached and go live,” Bielik said.

Bielik said the town has also put up the signage directing commuters to the station.

“I hope we haven’t caused people to be misled, directing them to something that doesn’t work yet,” Bielik said. “Everything we can do we have done. The last step is CL&P finishing the hookup.”

According to CL&P spokesman Mitch Gross, the company is waiting for information on an alternative sight from the contractor and the results from a municipal study.

Bielik said he has been working with Newington Electric Company and was told the company was waiting for CL&P. He said he was going to stay on top of the issue and make sure it comes to fruition.

“We want this thing to be complete so the public can have this thing available to them as soon as possible,” Bielik said. “Right now we are walking that fine line between being an interested and concerned customer and being a pest.”
