NAUGATUCK — Mr. Howard E. Hoppe, 89, of Naugatuck, passed away peacefully at Saint Mary’s Hospital on Sunday, Nov. 30, 2014.

Mr. Hoppe was born in Naugatuck on June 12, 1925, a son of the late Gustave and Augusta Hoppe. He was a lifelong resident of Naugatuck and an U.S. Army veteran proudly serving during World War II. He retired in 1986 after 42 years of service from Risdon Manufacturing. He was a member of the Naugatuck Elks Lodge 967, VFW Post 1946, American Legion Post 17, and the German-American Society of Bristol. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his son, Gary Hoppe and his wife, Cathleen, of Hopkinton, Mass.; son-in-law, Louis Cavagnaro of Naugatuck; granddaughters, Kristen and Kathleen; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Lynda Cavagnaro; two sisters, Gladys Anasauskas and Alice Nacunas.

His funeral service will be held on Thursday, Dec. 4 at 10:30 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 170 Coen St., Naugatuck. Attendees are asked to meet directly at the church at 10:15 a.m. Burial with full military honors will follow in Grove Cemetery, Naugatuck. Calling hours will be held at the Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main St., Naugatuck on Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. The Naugatuck Veteran’s Council will assemble at 6:15 p.m. and the Elk Ritual will be held at 6:30 p.m.
