BEACON FALLS — A Naugatuck man struck while walking on Route 8 Tuesday night has died from his injuries.

Kevin Daly, 29, of Naugatuck was struck by a Ford E-250 about one mile before exit 25 on Route 8 northbound shortly before 8 p.m., state police said.

Beacon Hose Company No. 1 spokesman Jeremy Rodorigo said the department received the call about the accident at 7:59 p.m. and was on the scene within minutes.

When the first responders arrived on the scene they found Daly lying on the shoulder of the highway between exits 24 and 25 where the highway makes “S” turns, Rodorigo said. Daly had suffered critical injuries and was unconscious and not responsive, he said.

Daly was taken to Waterbury Hospital where he died from his injuries, state police said. It’s unknown why Daly was in the roadway, state police said.

The driver of the Ford E-250, identified by police as Dean Meier of Middlebury, remained on the scene.

The accident shut the highway for a while as firefighters and emergency medical technicians rendered aid to the man. Firefighters remained on the scene, to provide light, as an accident reconstruction team by the Connecticut State Police investigated.

The accident remains under investigation.
