On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month Prospect, Naugatuck and Beacon Falls will each honor veterans.

Prospect Mayor Robert Chatfield said a “small but meaningful ceremony” will be held Tuesday at the Civil War Memorial on the Green on Center Street.

The ceremony, which starts at 11 a.m., will include members of the American Legion Post 194 and the VFW Post 8075 placing wreathes at the memorial.

Chatfield said all veterans, regardless of what town they live in, are welcome to attend the ceremony.

Naugatuck will begin its ceremonies at 10:30 a.m. with the Whittemore Bridge Float Lowering. At 10:45 a wreath will be laid in front of the World War I monument on the Green on Church Street and at 11 a.m. the area churches will ring their bells in remembrance of the veterans.

Naugatuck will also hold its annual Veterans Day parade. The parade steps off at 2 p.m. from Ion Bank, 87 Church St., and heads up Church Street to the Green.

Following the parade there will be a ceremony on the Green where Robert J. Genovese, a United States Army veteran, will be the keynote speaker. Genovese served in the Army from 2007 until 2013, during Operation Enduring Freedom.

In Beacon Falls, American Legion Post 25 will conduct a Veterans Day ceremony at 11 a.m. at the Matthies Park Veterans Memorial. Members of scouting organizations and members of Woodland Regional High School’s band and choirs will be participating.

“All persons are invited to attend and participate in honoring all veterans, those currently serving, those that served in the past, and those who made the greatest sacrifice,” American Legion Post 25 Adjunct Rich Minnick said.

Post 25 will also host an Armistice Day Dinner starting at 6 p.m. Nov. 8 at St Michael’s Lyceum, 25 Maple Ave. The event will include a buffet dinner, deserts and door prizes. A special ceremony will be conducted to honor prisoners of war and soldiers missing in action.

“The proceeds are to assist fellow veterans, their families, the young citizens of Beacon Falls and various organizations in Beacon Falls,” Minnick said.
