BEACON FALLS — John Swetz, 90 of Beacon Falls, beloved husband of Cecelia Mary Bernal Swetz, died peacefully on Thursday, Nov. 20, 2014 in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his family. Born in Ansonia on July 10, 1924, he was the son of the late Gustave and Helen Skurat Swetz.

Mr. Swetz was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII and longtime resident of Shelton before moving to Beacon Falls approximately 20 years ago. He worked as a jitney driver for the former H.K. Porter Co. of Shelton for 33 years before his retirement in 1989. Mr. Swetz’s greatest joy was his family. He took great pride in being active in his children and grandchildren’s lives. Many warm memories of togetherness, the holidays and countless family gatherings will forever be in the hearts he leaves behind.

In addition to his beloved wife of 70 years, he is survived by his devoted son, Richard (Lynne) Swetz of Oxford; a brother, Paul Swetz of Shelton; cherished grandchildren, Tammy (Michael) Tadduni, Karen (James) Serra, Gene Desroches, and Kevin Desroches, all of Shelton, Lori Swetz of Ansonia and Deana Swetz of Oxford; treasured great-grandchildren, Alayna, Taylor and Justine Tadduni, Kristen, Andrew and Kaylee Serra, Alyssa Zavednak and Ricky Swetz. Mr. Swetz was predeceased by a much loved daughter, Judith Swetz Desroches; a sister, Helen Phillips; and brothers, Samuel and Steven Swetz.

Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2014, at 9 a.m. from the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Ave., Ansonia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. in St. Mary Church, 212 Elizabeth St., Derby. Interment with military honors will follow in Lawn Cemetery, Huntington. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, Nov. 24, 2014, from 4 to 7 p.m.
