Town still searching for vandals

BEACON FALLS — Nearly a month after vandals damaged the Pent Road Recreation Complex the town has a bill but no arrests.

“As far as I know the investigation hasn’t yielded any concrete suspects yet. Which is unfortunate,” First Selectman Christopher Bielik said.

On Aug. 24 vandals kicked in doors at the snack shack and announcer’s booths at the complex. They also damaged the locks on the doors of the shed that held the park’s maintenance equipment.

On Aug. 28 vandals hit the park once again, breaking into a shed and stealing baseball equipment.

Bielik said the physical damage at the park cost about $4,600. The town has filed a claim with its insurance carrier to cover the costs, he said.

However, the town’s insurance does not cover the theft of the baseball equipment, which was owned by the Robert A. Cole Little League, Bielik said. The league has its own insurance and is pursuing a separate claim, he said.

Police have stepped up patrols of the complex since the incidents, especially when the park is closed, Bielik said.

Shortly after the vandalism occurred Bielik mentioned the possibility of installing security cameras in the park. The town is still looking into that option.

“We’re looking to see what makes sense in terms of the amount we would be able to invest in it. Would it be money well spent with what direction we go,” Bielik said.

While the town has yet to catch the suspect or suspects, Bielik remains confident whoever vandalized the park would be found.

“We certainly have not given up hope,” Bielik said.
