WATERBURY — The annual Bob Veillette 5K Road Race and Walk is Saturday.

The race was moved from its traditional Sunday afternoon start time in response to participants’ requests.

The event, which includes a 5K running route and a 1-mile walking circuit, will be held at 8:30 a.m. rain or shine at Library Park at Grand and Meadow streets. Registration opens at 7 a.m. For more information or to register online, visit www.Bob5K.com.

All funds raised go toward ongoing medical and living expenses that allow stroke survivor and Naugatuck resident Bob Veillette to live at home with his wife, Bonnie. Veillette was left with locked-in syndrome after a stroke in 2006 and is paralyzed from the nose down.

Before his stroke, Veillette was an accomplished jazz pianist and worked at the Waterbury Republican-American for more than 40 years, most recently as managing editor. To learn more about Veillette, visit www.BobVeillette.com.

Since 2006, the race has raised more than $145,000 to help pay for Veillette’s care.
