ANSONIA — John H. Pearce, 92, of Ansonia, beloved husband of the late Edna Reed Pearce, died peacefully on Aug. 14, 2014 in Griffin Hospital. Born in Louisburg, N.C. on May 5, 1922, he was the son of the late Bailey and Roxy Wilkes Pearce.

Mr. Pearce was a longtime resident of Norwalk and Florida before moving to Ansonia. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Pearce was employed by the State of Connecticut, working within the Fairfield Hills Hospital of Newtown for over 30 years. He was a devout Christian, a self-taught guitarist and enthusiast of blue grass music, and dedicated family man.

He is survived by his devoted daughter with whom he resided, Linda Florenza, and her husband, Bishop Rocco Florenza, of Ansonia, Jean Bardos of Middletown, Brenda Pearce of Florida; stepson, James Reed of Naugatuck and step-daughter, Susan O’Neill of North Carolina; a sister, Eunice Horton of North Carolina; a cousin, with whom he was raised, Shirley Evans of North Carolina; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by a sister, Neva Martin.

A Memorial Requiem Service will be held in the Anglican Cathedral Church of the Resurrection, 6 Church St., Ansonia, at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 30, 2014. Interment will be in the Ransdell Baptist Church Cemetery, Louisburg, North Carolina. The Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Ave., Ansonia, is in care of arrangements.
