PROSPECT — Two men were arrested Thursday after being found in possession of marijuana, which they reportedly found behind a local field.

Michael Russo, 20, of 598 Washington Ave. in West Haven, and John Salemme, 18, of 66 Straitsville Road in Prospect, were both charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell and possession of more than 4 ounces of marijuana.

Salemme was also charged with possession of a dangerous weapon without a permit after being found in possession of an electronic stun gun.

Prospect police wrote in a press release that the two men were seen walking on Old Log Town Road around 5 a.m. Thursday morning. Police stopped the two men as a precaution following motor vehicle break-ins that have plagued the area this summer.

Officers found the marijuana in one of the subject’s backpack, which both Russo and Salemme reported they had gotten from plants growing in the woods behind the skate park in Hotchkiss Field. A check of the area behind the skate park revealed several small marijuana plants, according to the police report.

Russo and Salemme were released on $10,000 non-surety bond with a Sept. 10 court date at Waterbury Superior Court.
