SEYMOUR — Raymond Richard Porell, 85, beloved husband of Madeline Kross Porell of Seymour, died June 30, 2014 at Griffin Hospital, Derby.

Born in St. Johnsbury, Vt. on Oct. 5, 1928, he was the son of the late Wolford Napoleon and Gertrude Rivers Porell. Mr. Porell was a proud U.S. Army veteran and resided in Seymour for many years. He worked as an engineer for Bridgeport Hospital for over 30 years, until his retirement in 1994. Mr. Porell was a member of the American Legion, David S. Miles Post #174, Oxford and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Raymond Goldbach Post, Stratford. He was also a member of the Seymour, Naugatuck, Ansonia and Oxford senior centers.

In addition to his wife of 40 years, he is survived by his devoted children, Diane Porell Brown of Vermont, Richard (Dawn) Porell of Oxford, Rae (Rick) Dlugokenski of Seymour, Jody Porell of Beacon Falls and Jason Porell of Naugatuck; a brother, Douglas Porell of Texas; cherished grandchildren, Ericka, Sara and Ricky Dlugokenski of Seymour; Ryan Bradley of Beacon Falls; Amy, Richard, and Curt Porell of Oxford. He was predeceased by a sister, Arlene Raymond.

Funeral services are private. The Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Ave., Ansonia, is in care of arrangements.
