PROSPECT — Mr. Paul A. Huggins, 77, of Prospect, passed away at his home on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband for 56 years of Joan A. (Townes) Huggins.

Mr. Huggins was born in New Haven on May 6, 1937 a son of the late Edward E. and Inez (Singleton) Huggins. He was retired, after working as a truck driver for many years, from Gerald Metals in Waterbury and has also worked at Bozzutos Inc. and was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Waterbury. He was a member of the Yale Afro-American Center, taught at N.O.W. in Waterbury and also was an accomplished drummer having taught and played drums at the Bowen-Peters Dance School in New Haven, KiKi Asa Dance School in New Haven, Dee Dee’s Dance School in New Haven and the Marie Baskerville Dance School in Waterbury.

He was a U.S. Army veteran having proudly served in Germany during the Korean Conflict.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Huggins is survived by a son, Mark Huggins and his wife Pamela Taylor Huggins of Waterbury; two daughters, Pamela Huggins-Hinman and her husband William of Beacon Falls and Bridget Huggins of Waterbury; a sister, Kay Cardoza of Las Vegas, Nev.; two brothers, Edward Huggins of Weston and Ronald Huggins of Virginia; two grandchildren, Jeffrey Paul Jones and Nicole Brewer and her husband Paul; a great-granddaughter, Niamh Brewer and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Meloria Rowland and Helene Antunes and two brothers, Clint Huggins and Wilford Huggins.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at 7 p.m. at Prospect Memorial Funeral Home, 72 Waterbury Road, Prospect. Burial will be in the Connecticut State Veterans Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 from 5 until 7 p.m.
