PROSPECT — Mr. Carmen M. Santoro, 84, died Saturday, July 26, 2014, at Saint Mary’s Hospital as a result of a motor vehicle accident on Straitsville Road. He was the husband of Dorothy “Dottie” M. (Christofferson) Santoro.

Carmen was born in Waterbury on July 16, 1930, son of the late Michael and Anna Maria (D’Aniella) Santoro. He was a U.S. Army veteran stationed in Germany after World War II. He was a master toolmaker employed at Scovill/Century Brass for 40 years until retired. He was presently working as a bus monitor for the children with special needs for Region 16 School District.

In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing in Maine, and later he enjoyed fishing with his grandchildren. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, his brothers and friends.

Besides his loving wife of 61 years, he leaves two sons, David C. Santoro and his wife, Ann-Marie, of Prospect, John W. Santoro of Florida; a daughter, LeeAnn Santoro of Prospect; a daughter-in-law, Debbie Santoro of Massachusetts; two brothers, Vito Santoro of Waterbury, John Santoro of Pennsylvania; nine grandchildren, David, Krista, Lauralee, Jesse and Shelly Santoro, Michael and Steven Hack, and Amy and Kelsey Santoro; 13 great-grandchildren; his brother-in-law, Roy VanBuren of Waterbury; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Thomas Santoro; his brothers, Joseph and Anthony Santoro; his sisters, Rose Santoro and Assunta VanBuren, and his sisters-in-law, Isabel Santoro, Madeline Santoro and Lillian Santoro.

The funeral will be held 9 a.m. Thursday, July 31, at Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, to St. Anthony’s Church, Prospect, for a Mass at 10 a.m. Entombment with full military honors will follow in Calvary Garden Mausoleum. Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
