Obituary: Ruth Estelle (Dalquist) Semrow

PROSPECT — Mrs. Ruth Estelle (Dalquist) Semrow of Prospect passed away peacefully on Friday, May 30, 2014. She was the widow of Avald John Semrow.

Mrs. Semrow was born in Waterbury on June 18, 1922 daughter of the late Gustave and Bertha (Lewis) Dalquist. She attended Mary Abbott and Wilby High Schools and enjoyed childhood vacations at the beach. Ruth worked at Regina Leonard’s Dance Studio, where she also met her husband of 63 years. Ruth and Avald built their home in Prospect where she devoted her life to her family, attending to everyone’s special needs. With Avy, Ruth enjoyed tending their vegetable garden, watching parades and going on Sunday morning drives around Connecticut. Ruth loved taking care of her flower gardens, feeding the birds, doing puzzles and crafts, knitting, crocheting, raising African violets with a green thumb like her mother’s and watching wild turkeys feeding on top of her picnic table. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Naugatuck.

Mrs. Semrow is survived by a daughter, Karen Ruth Semrow of Prospect and Stamford; a son, Frederick John Semrow of Prospect; a sister, Lois Megin of Southington; two sisters-in-law, Anna Luschenat and her husband William of Prospect and Ruth Glick of Naugatuck and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Gilbar and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Graveside funeral services and burial will be held on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Prospect Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Prospect Memorial Funeral Home, 72 Waterbury Road, Prospect is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Prospect Volunteer Fire Department, 26 New Haven Road, Prospect, CT 06712.
