NEWTOWN — Helen J. McDermott, 95, formerly of Naugatuck, passed away peacefully at Masonicare of Newtown. She was widow of Dennis P. McDermott.
Mrs. McDermott was born in Naugatuck on Jan. 3, 1919, daughter of Catherine (Dolecki) Carzasty. She was a longtime Naugatuck resident before moving to Waterbury. She had worked at Uniroyal, and then retired from Bristol Babcock after 24 years of service. She was a member of AARP Chapter 495, Waterbury South Senior Center and Evergreen Club. Helen was a communicant of St. Hedwig Church, and she enjoyed traveling, especially in the United States.
She is survived by her son, Gary P. McDermott and his wife, Patricia of Watertown; her brother, Edmund Napier of Waterbury; two grandsons, Michael McDermott and his wife, Morgan and Richard McDermott and his wife, Kimberley; three great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. McDermott was predeceased by her sisters, Mary Kazalunas and Victoria Nadeau.
Her funeral will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. at the Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald-Zembruski Funeral Home. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Thursday morning at the funeral home from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
