BEACON FALLS — The town has hired a new finance director.

First Selectman Christopher Bielik said the town has given the job to Woodbury resident Adam Goldberg.

Goldberg, who was hired last week, replaces former finance director Manuel Gomes, who retired in January.

Goldberg will work 20 hours a week on a flexible schedule, Bielik said. He is expected to start on May 19. Bielik said Goldberg will start on a 13-week probationary period, earning $42 an hour. After the probationary period Goldberg’s wage will be raised to $45 an hour, he said.

Bielik said the town had 11 candidates for the position and interviewed the top three.

Bielik said the way Goldberg presented himself made him stand out.

“He was very professional and very knowledgeable. He has the self-starting kind of attitude were looking for,” Bielik said.

Prior to being hired in Beacon Falls, Goldberg worked as the chief financial officer for New Morning Natural and Organic Grocery Store, an independent grocery store in Woodbury.

Goldberg hold a bachelor’s degree in accounting from North Eastern University and currently serves on Woodbury’s Zoning Board of Appeal and Business and Economic Development Committee.
