Obituary: Eleanor Theresa (Hayes) Benson

NAUGATUCK — Mrs. Eleanor Theresa (Hayes) Benson, 78, of Naugatuck, passed away in the early morning hours of Monday, April 14, 2014. She joins her husband Arthur R. Benson, who passed away in 1999 after 40 years of marriage.

Mrs. Benson was born in Southington on Dec. 5, 1935, a daughter of the late George and Theresa (Eckels) Hayes and was a graduate of Southington High School and New Britain General Hospital School of Nursing. She was a registered nurse for many years at Bristol Hospital until her retirement and then moved to South Carolina. She was involved in the literacy program and was a volunteer with Kairos Prison Ministry International, and the High Steppers Square Dance Club before moving back to Connecticut in 2000, settling in Naugatuck. She was a kind, generous and thoughtful woman and a great mother. She will be truly missed by those who loved and knew her.

She leaves her two children; her son Chuck Benson of Meriden and her daughter Elizabeth (Benson) Youngblood and her husband Guy of Peekskill, N.Y.; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Besides her parents and husband, Art, she was predeceased by her brothers and sisters.

Her funeral service will be on Saturday, April 19, 2014 at 3 p.m. at the Alderson Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St. Burial will be in Grove Cemetery, Naugatuck, at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.
