NAUGATUCK — Police opened an investigation into the untimely death of an infant when the baby was found unresponsive Tuesday morning at the infant’s home on Diamond Street.

Naugatuck police and paramedics responded to the multifamily home at 20 Diamond St. at about 7 a.m. CPR was administered on the infant, police said. The baby was taken to Waterbury Hospital, where the infant was pronounced dead.

Police have not identified the infant or the baby’s parents, who live in apartment 1 at 20 Diamond St.

There are four apartments in the home. According to borough land records the home is owned by Landmark Property #20 LLC, which lists its mailing address as The Community’s Bank in Bridgeport.

An investigation was launched into the circumstances surrounding the infant’s death. Naugatuck detectives along with detectives from the Connecticut State Police Major Crime Division worked at the scene for hours Tuesday.

Pamela Ready, who lives across the street, said in addition to the infant, young twin girls and a young boy live in the apartment.

Ready, who has two young children ages 5 and 7, said the family hosted an Easter egg hunt for the neighborhood children on Saturday. She called the parents “good people.”

“No parent should have to go through what they are going through now,” Ready said.

Police responded to the apartment where the infant lived Monday night at about 7:40 p.m. for a separate,  unrelated domestic disturbance.

Cherish Curtain, 32, of 605 Sound Ave., Bridgeport, and Jennifer Ramos, 27, of 121 Hillside Ave., Waterbury, were arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, Naugatuck police spokesman Lt. Bryan Cammarata said. The two had been fighting over a cell phone, he said.

Cammarata said the dispute did not involve the baby’s parents and does not appear to be related to the child’s death. He said the women aren’t related to the family that lives in the apartment.

Both women were released on a $500 bond and scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on Tuesday.

Cammarata said police are doing a full investigation into the infant’s death.

An autopsy on the infant was scheduled for Wednesday. Cammarata said it’s unknown when the results of the autopsy will be available.

The incident remains under investigation and no further details were released.
