Children will get the chance to cast their lines this month.

The 23rd Annual James Hennessey Sr. Memorial Fishing Derby will be held Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Baummer’s Pond off of Mill Street in Naugatuck. The derby is open to children ages 1 to 16. Prizes will be awarded.

Hot dogs, burgers, soda, coffee and hot chocolate will be available at the derby, which is sponsored by AFSCME Local 1303-12 and the Naugatuck Park and Recreation Department.

The Second Annual Ron Barksdale Memorial Fishing Rodeo will be held at Matthies Park in Beacon Falls April 26 from to 11 a.m.

The event, which will feature food and prizes, is open to only Beacon Falls children up to and including age 15. The event is sponsored by the Saint Michael’s Church Men’s Club and supported by Beacon Falls Park and Recreation. Beacon Hose Company No. 1 sponsors the first prize and trophy.
