Foundation awards grants

WATERBURY — The Connecticut Community Foundation recently awarded its first round of 2014 grants to area nonprofits.

The funding came from funds established by area donors and totaled over $423,000. In addition, CCF awarded $27,500 in sponsorship grants. For a detailed listing of recent sponsorship recipients, visit www.conncf.org/recent-sponsorships.

Several local organizations received grants.

Oil Drum Art, Inc. of Beacon Falls received a $7,200 living arts grant for trash drum art. The grant will provide 20 schools/afterschool programs with prepped 55-gallon oil drums and a paint kit with brushes for students to paint historic “first events” about Greater Waterbury.

The Prospect Land Trust received a $500 grant from the Environment Grants Committee to maintain and improve the Prospect Land Trust properties including accessibility to the existing trails, erosion control and repair.

Hidden Acres Therapeutic Riding Center and the United Way of Naugatuck and Beacon Falls received grants from the Saunders Fund for the Sick and Infirm of the Borough of Naugatuck.

Hidden Acres received $25,000 to subsidize therapeutic riding activities, an unmounted equine assisted learning program, an integrated summer learning program and customized programs for local groups.

The United Way received $20,000 to support the expansion of the Breakfast Club and Lunch Bunch, two programs that promote exercise and healthy habits for Naugatuck children.
