BEACON FALLS — The Beacon Falls Public Library has received a $500 stipend from philanthropist and literacy advocate Andrew Eder to offer two programs for parents to learn how to use “conversational reading” with their child.

A story walk will be held April 17 for children in preschool through second grade. Program Librarian Shari Garcia will model conversational reading with participants while taking a walk around the library’s neighborhood and visiting the pages of “Unlovable” by Dan Yaccarino.

Parents and children in third, fourth and fifth grades are invited to visit the library now to pick up the book “Shredderman: Secret Identity” by Wendelin Van Draanen, which should be read before the second program April 16.

Participants in both programs will receive a free copy of Frankenstein’s book “Reading Together: Everything You Need to Know to Raise a Child Who Loves to Read” and will take home at least one children’s book with which to practice the modeled techniques.
