BEACON FALLS — There is plenty of art to enjoy among the books at the Beacon Falls Library.

Since the renovation of the Connie Christensen Children’s Room in 1997, there has been art displayed at the library, located on the top floor of Town Hall on Maple Avenue. The Naugatuck Valley Photography Club has had a continuing display and, for the past few years, Woodland Regional High School students have had rotating collections at the library. Typically there are 10 to 20 pieces on display at once from the Woodland fine arts department, according to Library Director Sue Dowdell.

“We appreciate the photos provided by the photo club and are constantly amazed at the level of artistic talent of our high school students,” Dowdell said I a press release. “We are so very pleased to highlight their exceptional work.”

The newest collection showcases student work from Christopher Misuraca’s Graphic Design One class. Fifteen different artistic interpretations of the alphabet will be on display throughout the months of March and April, according to Dowdell.

“In the beginning of Graphic Design One students learn about some type history, general type styles, common terminology, letter-form construction, and the general importance of typography to graphic designers, and the industry as a whole. After some discussion in class students create a ‘decorative type’ of their own,” Misuraca said. “Many thumbnail sketches of different concepts were required before each student (and the teacher) would settle upon a design to move forward with. Students learn in this project that type design and the subsequent illustration takes time and tremendous effort on the part of the artist.”
