PROSPECT — More than three months after a fire destroyed his business a local dentist is just about ready to come back to Prospect.

Dr. Kenneth Capozzi was thrust from his office at 2 Summit Road — one his practice called home since June 2002 — after an Oct. 29 fire tore through much of the office building.

Since the fire, Capozzi has been working out of an office in Oxford as part of the Oxford Dental Group, LLC, only seeing patients on an emergency basis.

“I have a long list of patients contacting us asking if we had reopened,” Capozzi said. “For routine care, people have been kind and are waiting for me to reopen.”

His patients may not have to wait much longer. Capozzi has been renovating a building at 158 Waterbury Road and plans to open next month.

“We’ll be opening March 1 if all goes well,” said Capozzi last week. “We have been working hard and diligently.”

Capozzi will share the building with Flooring America, which owns and currently operates out of the building. The building was redesigned to accommodate Capozzi’s practice.

Flooring America will spotlight its showroom’s redesign, and Capozzi Dental Group’s new location, on Feb. 25 when Flooring America hosts an Out for Business networking event in conjunction with the Waterbury Regional Chamber of Commerce.

Capozzi said his new office, once it opens, will be very modern with new technology.

“It’s a very well engineered dental space,” Capozzi said.

Capozzi said the new office will have at least four operatories — the same in his previous office. Depending on the cost, he said, he might add a fifth operatory.

While it was difficult not to have an office to call his own, Capozzi said he had no plans to ever leave Prospect.

“I had an outpouring of sympathy from very caring people, from patients and even non-patients in the Prospect area,” Capozzi said. “It’s been hard to not work and care for my patients. I’m glad to be getting back to work.”

According to Mayor Robert Chatfield, the day commander of the Prospect Fire Department, the fire was still under investigation as of press time.

In addition to Capozzi, the fire also displaced four businesses and a couple that lived in an apartment attached to the office complex.

Secure Investigations, LLC, owned by Michael O’Loughlin, moved to 4A Summit Road, which shares a parking lot with the building that burnt down.

In November, Stephen Ciucci, owner and counselor at Christian Counseling of Greater Waterbury, was seeing some of his clients at Waterbury Christian Fellowship, 1 Dube Lane, Waterbury, which is the church he attends. He could not be reached for comment for this article on whether he has moved into a new office.
