BEACON FALLS — The assessor’s office is accepting applications for the local option tax credit.

To be eligible for the tax credit, applicants must be 65 years old as of Dec. 31, 2013 or be totally disabled as defined by Social Security. Applicants must be a permanent resident homeowner for at least a year and be current on their taxes. Beacon Falls must be the primary residence for applicants, and applicants must not be receiving tax benefits elsewhere.

In order to receive the benefit, an application must be field with the assessor’s office and renewed every two years. Proof of all income for 2013 must be supplied with the application.

Anyone who previously qualified for the credit is asked to make sure they have a current application on file. If an application has expired the benefit can’t be given on this year’s July tax bill.
