WhittemoreLibraryNAUGATUCK — The Whittemore Library is featuring the artwork of Aline Harvey Dovell this month.

Dovell has been a resident of Naugatuck for almost 60 years. She was raised in Burgundy, France.

Dovell was encouraged from an early age by her mother to pursue her interest in art.  She began by working in watercolors gradually shifting over to oils, which have since become Dovell’s preferred medium. Her style will remind her audience of the Dutch Masters, particularly Vermeer, and she likes to use both brushes and a palette knife to capture on canvas memories of the French countryside, its landscape and its animals.

Dovell’s paintings occasionally depict a beloved child or pet, but most notably, Burgundy, France.

Dovell is a past member of SCAN, the Society of Creative Arts of Newtown and her works are held in several private collections. This month’s exhibit can be viewed on the main floor of the library during regular library hours. For more information, call (203) 729-4591.
