CNLogo1Valley Chordsmen holding Guest Night

WATERBURY — The Valley Chordsmen, Waterbury’s chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society, will hold its annual Guest Night and a new member drive June 3 at 7 p.m. at Bunker Hill Congregational Church, 274 Bunker Hill Ave.

The chorus will demonstrate how barbershop harmony works and sing some recent favorites. Guests will have an opportunity to sing along, and informal auditions will be arranged for those who would like to check their range.

Barbershop singing includes all ranges of male voices, from low (bass) to high (tenor). The middle parts are the melody singers (lead) and the middle harmony (baritone).

High School singers are also encouraged to attend.

WSO holding wine tasting

WATERBURY — The Waterbury Symphony Orchestra is holding a wine tasting event at Mill House Antiques and Gardens in Woodbury June 7, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Mill House Antiques and Gardens is located at 1068 Main St. North in Woodbury. Proceeds from the event are for the Benefit of the Waterbury Symphony Orchestra.  Tickets are $75 each. For tickets, visit waterburysymphony.org or call (203) 574-4283.

Sisters to Sisters Book Club to meet

WATERBURY — The Sisters to Sisters Book Club will discuss “The Oath: The Obama White House and The Supreme Court” by Jeffrey Toobin June 3 in the auditorium of the Silas Bronson Library, 267 Grand St., at 6 p.m.

The public is invited. Admission is free as well as parking at that time.

Quilts that Care holding meeting

WATERBURY — Quilts that Care will meet from 6:30 to 8 p.m. June 3 at the Harold Leever Regional Cancer Center, 1075 Chase Parkway.

Art league hosting annual show

WATERTOWN — The Watertown Art League is hosting its annual Juried Art Show June 10 through June 22 at Taft School in Watertown.

Local artists are invited to enter the show. Over $1,000 in cash prize awards will be presented to winners in all art categories. No photography or sculpture will be accepted. An entry fee will be charged for up to two pieces of art work.

The league will also be presenting two memorial awards.

The Albina Koris award will be given in memory of her longtime membership and commitment to the league. Koris, who was a Naugatuck resident, was one of the original members that incorporated the league which has been in existence for over 35 years. 

The Vincent Miceli award will be presented in memory of Miceli’s long time membership and participation in the league. Miceli was a Waterbury resident. 

A reception and award ceremony is scheduled for June 15 from 1 to 3 p.m. The public is invited.

Connecticut Fair Housing Center holding conference

HAMDEN — The Connecticut Fair Housing Center is holding the conference, “Growing Diversity: How to Build Open Suburban Communities,” June 8 from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Quinnipiac University School of Law.

The conference will discuss actions suburban residents can take to foster welcoming, inclusive and diverse communities. Guest speakers will include V. Elaine Gross, president of New York’s ERASE Racism, and Phil Tegeler, executive director of the Poverty & Race Research Action Council.
