Myeloma currently affects more than 100,000 people in the United States, with an estimated 20,000 new cases diagnosed each year.

The couple started the first support group for myeloma patients and caregiver in Connecticut in 2001. Robin Tuohy is now director of support groups for the International Myeloma Foundation.

The Connecticut Multiple Myeloma Fighters Information Group meets on the second Tuesday of each month from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Harold Leever Regional Cancer Center, 1075 Chase Parkway, Waterbury.  For more information, contact Michael or Robin Tuohy at (203) 206-3536, email Tuohy@snet.net or visit www.ct.myeloma.org.
