BEACON FALLS — The town’s 2012 grand list saw a small increase.

The 2012 grand list totaled about $472.5 million, a .2 percent, or just over $1 million, increase compared to the 2011 grand list, according to Assessor June Chadderton.

The grand list is a tabulation of the value of assessed real estate, personal property and motor vehicles.

Real estate totaled $414.19 million, an increase of $1.65 million, or .4 percent. That was the only section of the grand list that saw any increases, however.

Personal property decreased $475,954, or 2.5 percent, to $17.85 million, and motor vehicles dropped $163,930, or .4 percent, to $40.47 million.

At the current mill rate, the increase means more than $31,000 in revenue, according to Chadderton.

The 2012 grand list came as better news to the town than the 2011 grand list had done a year prior.

In 2011 the town’s grand list fell approximately $68.9 million, or 12.75 percent, from the 2010 grand list due primarily to the revaluation that had been done in town.

Chadderton said the reason the grand list remained nearly flat in 2012 was because there was minimum new constructions taking place and few home improvements.

While it was not a large increase, Chadderton saw it as a positive sign.

“It means we’re holding our own,” Chadderton said.

First Selectman Gerard Smith felt that any increase was better than a decrease.

“I’m glad it went up and didn’t go down,” Smith said.
