BEACON FALLS — The town is holding an orientation program for homeowners and contractors to learn more about the small cities housing rehabilitation program.

Earlier this year, the state Department of Economic and Community Development awarded Beacon Falls a $300,000 Small Cities grant to help low and moderate income homeowners. The grant will be used to provide no interest loans to the property owners to make needed repairs to their homes.

The homeowner orientation program will be held Friday from 7 to 8 p.m. in Town Hall. The contractor orientation program will be from 8 to 8:30 p.m. Friday in Town Hall as well.

Priorities in the housing rehabilitation process include ensuring the health and safety of the home’s occupants, assistance in the prevention of neighborhood blight and making repairs that increase the life of structures. Eligible property owners must be low and moderate income, 80 percent or less of area median income, must have a home loan-to-value ratio of 85 percent, and must be current on taxes.

Completed applications will be accepted beginning Dec. 4 and should be submitted to Karen Wilson in the First Selectman’s office. Contractor applications are available from Lisa Low & Associates by calling (203) 888-5624. Homeowner applications will be available on the town website beginning Nov.15.
