The Connecticut State Employees Association has endorsed Democrat John “Corky” Mazurek for state Senate.

Mazurek, of Wolcott, is seeking to unseat state Sen. Joe Markley in the 16th Senatorial District which includes Southington, Wolcott, Prospect, Cheshire, and Waterbury.

“We endorse candidates who support the values we believe in; good paying jobs, decent health care and retirement benefits, quality government services for our citizens, and improving the lives of working families in our state. We work hard to elect candidates of either party who share these values,” said Patrice Peterson, president of CSEA SEIU Local 2001, in a news release announcing the endorsement.

CSEA/SEIU Local 2001 represents 25,000 active and retired public and publicly funded employees across Connecticut.

“A candidate endorsement is a decision we do not take lightly,” said Ed Daly, president of CSEA’s state employee retiree council, in the release. “Our members support candidates who have pledged to stand up for our issues and we will work to hold them accountable into the legislative session and beyond.”
