PROSPECT — The State’s Independent Party has officially endorsed Republican Lezlye Zupkus in her bid for the state House of Representatives.

Zupkus, of Prospect, is challenging Democrat state Rep. Vickie Nardello for the state House seat in the 89th District, which covers Prospect, Bethany, and a portion of Cheshire.

Zupkus, a native of Mississippi, has lived in Prospect for 19 years with her husband, Greg, and has two adopted children. She gradated from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona, Fla., and is the director of development for the St. Mary’s Hospital Foundation.

A release issued by Zupkus’ campaign stated she is running on a platform calling for reduced taxes and a common sense approach to reducing state spending, such as spending no more than is made, borrowing no more than can be afforded to pay back, and people should have all the government they need but only the government they need.
