Wings of Freedom Tour coming to Oxford

OXFORD — The Wings of Freedom Tour will touch down at the Oxford-Waterbury Airport for four days next week.

The Wings of Freedom Tour, sponsored by The Collings Foundation, is a living history display of military World War II aircrafts, such as the Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress, Consolidated B-24 Liberator, and North American B-25 Mitchell.

The tour will be in Oxford from Sept. 7 through Sept. 10. Visitors can tour the aircrafts — walk-through tours are $12 for adults and $6 for children 12 years old and younger — or take flights in certain planes. Thirty minute flights aboard the B-17 or B-24 are $425 per person. Flights are also available in the P-51 Mustang fighter. Reservations are needed to take flights and can be made by calling (800) 568-8924 or visiting www.collingsfoundation.com.

Air and ground crew veterans from World War II, who served on the B-17 Flying Fortress, B-24 Liberator, and the P-51 Mustang fighter, are being sought to share their stories with visitors Sept. 8 and Sept. 9. There is no admission charge for World War II veterans. They can bring memorabilia, photos and other items. Tables and chairs will be provided for veterans. Veterans who want to participate can call Walter Hushak at (860) 276-0749 for more information.
