BEACON FALLS — The Citizens for Tomorrow’s Downtown is holding a free raffle as a way thank a dozen local businesses that have been participating in the organization’s electricity supply fundraiser.
A couple of years ago the group, a non-political, civic-minded organization that focuses its fundraising efforts on beatifying downtown, partnered with the New Haven-based, energy broker Globele Energy for a fundraiser. The way the program works is area businesses and residents sign on with Globele Energy to be their energy supplier, and the group receives a small donation for every kilowatt of energy used.
Rick Cherhoniak, co-chair of Citizens for Tomorrow’s Downtown, said the group has raised about $2,000 a year through the fundraiser. The money raised will go towards building a brick tower with a small waterfall and bench on either side of the tower at the end of the nearly-complete streetscape project downtown, he said.
Cherhoniak said the group has partnered with Park Pals to build the tower.
A dozen businesses — Ace Auto, Beacon Falls Bakery, Beacon Falls Market, Beacon Falls Pizza Palace, Fitzgerald Automotive, Full Harvest, Gabe’s Mobil, Kelli’s Kuts, Subway, XpressMart, Beacon Beer and Beverage, and myboozebook.com — signed up with the group to do the electric supply fundraiser. In order to thank these businesses, Cherhoniak said the group decided to hold a free raffle for Beacon Falls residents in which 12, $50 gift certificates, one each to the above businesses, will be raffled off.
Cherhoniak said the group is planning to hold the drawing during a grand opening ceremony of the streetscape, which has yet to be scheduled. He said officials are hoping to hold the ceremony during Family Fun Day July 7.
