PROSPECT — A routine flight for the Civil Air Patrol turned out to be anything but routine.

On March 24, members of the Waterbury squadron of the Civil Air Patrol were on a ferry flight when Cadet Master Sgt. Devin Moore of Cheshire spotted plumes of smoke on a mountain top near the Prospect and Cheshire town lines, according to a release issued by the squadron.

The fire was in Prospect near the area of Conrwall Avenue, according to the release.

Capt. Dan Hanle of Southbury radioed the fire in to the Waterbury-Oxford airport tower, which in turned notified authorities, the release stated. The squadron remained in the air until firefighters arrived on the scene.

On their way home to Cheshire, 2nd Lt. James Keaney and Moore stopped by the Volunteer Fire Department of Prospect where Moore was congratulated by Prospect Fire Marshall Keith Griffin and firefighter Bob Scanlon for spotting the fire.
